I like the composition and position of the light source, as for the character herself, I feel the back side of her skin is too orange and could be de-saturated slightly, the left forearm brace as well as the left leg boot and boot fur could use some highlights on the back side just like the skin. If the main light source is behind the hill she is standing at the 7:30 position, and most of it is hitting the top of her, then I see how it would be natural the highlights on the back side don't show up from the top of the boot down. If this is the case, I would darken the bottom of the blade and boots at a slight angle . The texture on the blue cloth (If on its own layer) could be rotated slightly counter clockwise to blend with the perspective of the shot, except for the bottom of the cape, the outer left side would need to be rotated a bit counter-clockwise, while the inner right side would need to be rotated clockwise. Simply rotate the texture to its proper position, mask the areas individually, select the mask, invert the selection, and delete the texture not needed. I feel the grass in the foreground could be a little less transparent as not much light is hitting it. Overall, detail is emphasized and taken further from game reference, an excellent piece.

alright finally getting around to comment too XD

the detail in this picture is awsome! i ABSOLUTELY love all those little stitchings and carvings on the sword and all that. that enhanced the picture a ton :o really really good job. I am not all together convinced by the body itself but the detail put into the work made up for that easily :) and the comment of yours is quite entertaining too XD hach <3

sorry late reply XD work etc..what shall i say.. +_+ *pours some water on instant noodles* ok i will do my best to explain, this might become a bit long and confusing again :P you know me XD

First of all, about the style. I am not entirely sure what you were going for. While partly it seems very refined and realistic, in some parts it appears a bit more "comic" like, if that makes sense (I call anything thats not realistic comic now XD to simplyfy matters). In any case, i am currently of the assumption that you tried to find your own style somewhere inbetween whilst enither being too realistic nor to comicish.

Since you are, with that, also finding your own style, everything I do say may be dropped under „well thats just the way i like it..“ but it is the way I would have found it better personally :P

1.1. Lining-colo
I'm personally a big fan of coloring lining in and adjusting it to the actual picture rather than keeping it black so I absolutely support that. I thinjk it did make a great effect on your picture too, espiacally the light parts. The only part where the lining really bothers me is at the hands. It came out too thick here espiacally in comparison to the remaining body-lines, and it also is kept completely dark which seems a bit at odds to the remainder.

1.2. Lines-Perspective and anatomy
It is rather minor, but several parts of the perspective within the character seems a bit off. Each by itself is barely noticable but overall it enhances the feeling that soething might be wrong. There seem to be a few breaks in the torso although the clothes do not fully adjust to that. The chest is on a very fairly sided angle, despite options of pushing up breasts and deforming them into other positions, the impression remains that we see them nearly from the side. The belly itself seems to be tilted to us to a certain degree, although the belt is more of a side view again anyway. The hip however, is nearly fully turned to the viewer. This impression is strongly supported by the band in the center nearly being in the center and nearly being fewed from the front. The stitchings which, i do want to point out again, are beautifully made, are nearly symetric at the upper part enhancening the feel of a front view. Towards the legs the whole perspective tilts back to the side again, whilste the knee caps are still somewhat frontal giong rather far into the leg, the chins are more from the side which is mostly due to the fact that they are bend one way (bulked to the back bending inward to the front) which is usualy a sign for a side view, and then finally the feet are hm...well first they seem to be floating a little and then..hm..i am not even sure here from which perspective i am getting them. Put rather close together and partly tilted to us (left foot) due to position of it? I Think but then..ah well not sure here. She is also tilting forward. This all sounded very daramatic as i write it, so i want to point out again that those are minor missplacements that i am merely pointing out but would have been fixed with a few inches of moving so to speak :P However, my first impression when looking at the body was that something seemed off so when looking closer i found those slight ..thingies and am merely pointing em out now...

Completely apart from that are the arms. They stick out a lot, duo to the central position and act of ...pushing forward the gs. They seem rather strong and thick compared to the remaining body, espiacally the waist. I guess thats ok you need some strong arms as warrior :P Plus..we dont wanna support all the bone-girls toomuch do we?XD The main problem i see with the arms is where the muscles and bones go and stop. I think this might have just happened as a little inbend when doing the outlines and is not generally a problem of your anatomy. But the upper part of the arm is strongly bend inward much earlier than the ellbow. With that it seems like she ight be having some extra bones. I know when drawing a shematic sketch of the position one tends to use „balls“ for the joints, but youhave to be careful not to go too far with that.the upper part of the arm should have gone in an even curve into that ..second inbend you drew. Also the bottom part of the arm seemed to start a bit too early.

hm..well hands are difficult and its mostly just practise but I will point out that The fingers are somewhat off Depending on how thick the hilt is (overall it seems comparably slim) you should either not see the nails at all or..hm..yes *copies hand with my own* i think you made ahnds for a broarder hilt..In that case, however, the hilt should be visible still and the fingers further away from the palm. If you copy the position of the hands in real life you will see what I mean. That is probably easier than describing. Similar goes for the hand facing away from the viewer. However, I think such things are coming with drawing hands again and again so not too worry too much. You already added the veins-bones on the inner part of the arm thats very good to do. Keep at it and try refining your hand structure witht he time.

1.3. (yes a whole number for the face XD)

This is where it becomes really difficult for me because it is very hard to put apart what is style and what is perhaps a mistake in assorting the face. Not to ention the personal face structures...but here goes nothing:

The most and foremost overall first impression is that the eyes are just too big. This is slightly enhanced by the helmets form although i think the helmet came out great. The fact that you drew a nose and a proper mout only strengthen teh impression of realism, which makes the eyes stand out even more. Furthermore, the eyes are not in one line, in teh same angel and espiacally the back eye seems not to match with the cheek bone (which is mostly only noticable when going into full view. In fact, I think the cheek bone there is just a bit off overall. hm....Mouth, nose and eyes should be in a more or less proper „parallel“ (taking into account the roundness of a skull) line to each other. Try to work the chin out some more, mouth not so forward and...eyes further down...*has to keep scribbling around on photoshop myself to figure this out* XD Perhaps it might be a good idea to zoom in a few times and practice a few portraits on a sketch page and such.

Here a few tutorials: [link] figuring out how to do lips really helped me a lot with facial issues. When drawing realistic, lips are pretty important, to me anyway..because from manga i am used to not derawing lips at all.

[link] for the full portrait. I never tried it myself step by step that way but its kinda how i try to do portraits XD (just not as pro as that ._.)

As I said, (is that getting boring? Deal with it..) you are doing a really good job on clothes, so i think you should really sit down and try to do a bunch of very fast portraits till you got that burned in. Bodies too if possible, so that you catch upwith all that great work of the clothes :3

2. Colo

In general we talked about shading and colo before so I wont worry about getting into detail with that. I still think you go a bit very extreme with the shades but I accept it as something i can always recognize you by XD Plus i think you have gotten into more colour shemes which makes me happy.

2.Colours

In general I completely approve of the colours you chose XD You play around with different colour types within a body which is very important imo (like that the bottom of the arm is sorta reddish and thigns like that) they give the skin a feeling of being alive if you know what i mean XD Be careful with not going too far, like the chin is very orangish. As a little tip and thing I personally really like doing, but i do go a bit over the board with it...i tend to make fingertips RED. Really red, before i colour them in..err....I noticed it when i did this one

[link]

(don't laugh.....i knooow D:...not saying i am any good either lol..) anyway...when you look close you will see the hand resting on the belly is actually red (and purple..and..god knows what)...it was an accident but i think if applied properly it can give a strong feel of realism..I hae no idea how other people feel ab out this, but I like doing that. Same goes for nose and eyes...and otes of course. But I leave it to youropinion if you try it out.

2.2. Structure

Generally i am fine with the structure you chose for the skin. In fact, its a lot better than a lot of people do XD However, in comparison to the clothes (yees..i know its getting boring) it seems a bit blant. (is that even a word?). I mostly struggle to get „along“ with the highlight, the light smooth line that covers most free parts, particularly noticable on the arms and hands (other parts ar better). Putting aside the fact that the line shouldnt be so straight ona curved arm ad perhaps a shade should ahve been where the arm decorations are, but it seems just a bit too strong and extreme at these aprts. And too smooth. Did you, by any chance, use that smoothest brush? Sometimes i like to use that one smooth brush all the ay to the bottom that is slightly uneven for skin shading, espiacally if i colour bigger places (I usualy try to use smaller brushes with less hue or w/e otherwise) I believe its usualy the very last brush on the standard brush set. This is kinda minor and really not so important if you had not made the light line so distinctive tot he remainder. (dont missunderstand, i am absolutely pro-highlights :P it came out quite good with the legs actually).

Ok erm...yes...i think thats pretty much ..it...i guess you fell asleep at this point anyway... Perhaps a bit more shading stuffed into the hair..but..yeh i think I will shut up now..I hope that was somehow of use and did not just...make you sad D: i do know it sounds rather extreme but i can only say it again they are minorities i pulled up and out XD

Listen I don't hate you or anything like that, lol idk if you knew but I founded my learners paradise group for critiques like that.. very helpful... I get you are pointing out minor details, but in all truth minor details are the biggest problems in pieces I do that are that complicated.... Its the minor details that count... I will admit, I get a bit impatient at times.. and thats where the flaws come out... but I'm starting to become patient enough to really begin putting in all the details I see into a painting... this one believe it or not... in my opinion could have been more detailed... I just became impatient.. (also, This is quite an old drawing... i drew the girl herself months ago... I just hadn't really had... he he... the patience... to finish her...) lol all in all... I'm pleased with the result... and I think my next piece featuring a figure will not be one to ignore ;) Thank you for your critique it is MUCH appreciated. =D
